Gaikwad was selected to the Indian One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20) teams in June 2021 in preparation for their matchup with Sri Lanka. On July 28, 2021, he played in his first Twenty Twenty International game for India against Sri Lanka.
Gaikwad participated in the cricket academy when he was thirteen years old. On October 6, 2016, Rituraj Gaikwad made his professional debut for Maharashtra during the Ranji Trophy 2016–17.
